EC, Police not holding elections in a free and fair manner: Uttam

Hyderabad, November 27: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has accused the Election Commission of India (ECI) and State Police of indirectly supporting the TRS party while going against the spirit of free and fair elections.

Addressing a Meet the Press programmes organised by Hyderabad Press Club at Somajiguda Press Club on Tuesday, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that Chief Electoral Officer Rajath Kumar and Director General of Police Mahender Reddy clearly look inclined towards the TRS party. Therefore, he expressed fear the Assembly elections might not be held in a free and fair manner. He pointed out that Congress candidate Pratap Reddy, who is contesting against caretaker Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao from Gajwel constituency, was being subjected to harassment. He said every citizen of this country has a right to contest elections. However, he alleged that Pratap Reddy was being harassed at the instance of KCR and he was being implicated in false cases. He asked the EC and police authorities not to act in a biased manner and ensure free and fair elections.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that all democratic institutions including the Election Commission were being influenced by Prime Minister Narender Modi and KCR. He said even media was being intimidated or lured to give publicity for TRS while hiding the reality and truth from the people. He said Press was totally free till 2014 and neither the TDP nor Congress Governments tried to suppress its freedom. However, after Modi and KCR came to power, media was being forced to make KCR’s false promises at Page-1 headline.

The TPCC chief said KCR has created an illusionary world and forcing media to report it like a reality. Citing instances, he said about three years ago, KCR created a hype on cleaning of Hussainsagar. He said images were published in the media showing Hussainsagar as a clean lake with huge towers around it. Similarly, an imaginary picture of Ravindra Bharathi’s new building was circulated. Likewise, sketches of new Secretariat and other buildings were widely published in the media making people to believe that all those things were either real or will soon be a reality. However, he said not a single sketch which was released by the TRS Government turned into a reality during the last four-and-a-half years.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that KCR and his son K. Tarakarama Rao has kept the people in a dream world with promises of double bed room houses and other developments and silently looted the entire State. Unfortunately, he said media played a major role, willingly or unwillingly. He said that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released a report predicting that Telangana would be debt-ridden state on a permanent basis. However, he said that the mainstream media was suppressed from reporting the real situation to the people.

The TPCC chief said that the victory of People’s Front, comprising of Congress, TDP, TJS and CP, was essential to save the Telangana State from KCR family’s dictatorial rule. He appealed to the media to expose the real face of TRS Government.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that many top leaders of TRS were likely to join the Congress party soon. “Except for KCR’s family members, all other leaders of TRS are in touch with me. I also appeal to the TRS cadre to join the Congress party to have a respectable position and free the people of Telangana from the clutches of KCR family,” he said.

The TPCC Chief said that the promises being made by the Congress party were practical and they have been designed keeping in view the revenues of Telangana State.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the People’s Front Government would ensure housing plots to all journalists and steps would be taken to provide education, health and other benefits to the journalists and their families. He also promised that the Hyderabad Press Club would be transformed into the best Press Club in India.
